From Cataract to Clarity by Micro-inscision or 'Robotic' Blade Free Surgery

Cataract is a condition in which the natural transparent lens of the eye becomes cloudy and starts affecting your vision. Most cataracts are related to ageing and are common in older people. Other Risk factors for cataract include:

  • Certain diseases (for example, diabetes)
  • Certain drugs (like steroids)
  • Personal behavior (smoking, alcohol use)
  • The environment (prolonged exposure to ultraviolet sunlight)

The most common Symptoms of Cataract are:

  • Blurred vision
  • Colors seem faded
  • Glare - Headlights, lamps, or sunlight may appear too bright or a halo may appear around lights
  • Poor night vision
  • Double vision or multiple images in one eye
  • Frequent changes in power of your eyeglasses or contact lenses

Cataract cannot be treated by medicines. Surgery is performed to remove the cloudy lens and an Intra Ocular Lens (IOL) is inserted in the eye.

Newer Techniques of removing the lens are now available to restore your vision, with minimal risks. These include:

  • Phacoemulsification
  • Micro-Incision Cataract Surgery (MICS) or
  • ‘Robotic’ Laser Assisted Cataract Surgery

Once the lens is removed, it may be replaced by one of three options of Intra Ocular Lenses (IOL):

  • Monofocal Lenses provides good vision for distance
  • Multifocal Lenses provides good vision for distance and near thereby reducing the dependence on glasses
  • Toric Lenses corrects cylinder or astigmatism in addition to spherical number
